IZOFLEX sheet belongs to the group of waterproofing materials called dimpled or studded sheets, used for protecting foundation waterproofing, drainage, and ventilation of: floors, ceilings, walls, and terraces. All varieties of IZOFLEX sheet are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), characterized by high resistance to all substances present in soil. The shape of the dimples is designed so that ground pressure does not cause the sheet to collapse. The dimples, open on the embankment side, fill with soil, and thanks to this, the distribution of even the largest forces acting on the sheet is favorable for it.

Types of Waterproofing

However, to properly use this well-known material, it is worth knowing that the choice of waterproofing type and its application method depend on both the soil types in the ground and the groundwater level. We can therefore divide waterproofing into two major groups:

damp-proof insulation (light), protecting underground parts of buildings from water that does not exert hydrostatic pressure;
waterproof insulation (medium and heavy), protecting underground parts of buildings from water that exerts hydrostatic pressure.

Damp-proof insulation (light) can only be used in structures whose foundations are situated above the groundwater level, whereas waterproof insulation (medium and heavy) is used in buildings founded below the groundwater level. Nevertheless, in many cases, despite groundwater being below the foundations, waterproof protection is applied as a precautionary measure, since water can be unpredictable and cause considerable damage. Rainwater from precipitation that percolates into the ground can serve as an example. Depending on the volume and variable frequency, precipitation can pose constant or temporary threats to foundations.

The degree of these threats largely depends on the type of soil on which the building is or will be founded. Basement walls in permeable soils, such as sands and gravels, only require protection with damp-proof insulation in the form of dimpled sheets, also called foundation sheets or geomembranes.

Excellent results are achieved by laying two sheets in the proper sequence: first a 0.3 mm thick waterproofing polyethylene (PE) sheet, followed by IZOFLEX. There are many more possibilities for combining cooperating materials. For example, in waterproof insulation (heavy), a three-layer system is applied: the first layer is bitumen membrane, followed by a PE sheet functioning as a sliding layer, and finally a dimpled sheet that protects and drains the entire material system.

Dimpled sheets are called drainage-ventilation sheets and are used in multi-layer systems, for example with infiltration mats or other specialized materials (e.g., for green terraces). They can also be used for drying basement walls from the inside or as a ventilation and insulation layer on terraces. They have been used this way for many years.

It's also worth noting that terraces are classified as roofs - indeed, the most challenging ones. These products are also known to be used on retaining walls and embankments in earthworks and road construction.
